Quartermaster
Jerry Smalley
Quarter Masters Report
There have been some exciting developments at our Canteen and Bingo Hall.
First, we now have the capability to accept credit cards! Next, we have a new
Bingo machine and Board. This makes the game winner validation process
faster and easier! Come and see for yourself every Monday, Thursday, and
Friday at 7:00 PM.
We all would like to applaud the fine job done in the installation of our new
fence by some volunteer future Veterans!
You can now use your CREDIT CARD at the VFW Post!
“Global War on Terrorism Medal List Expanded
The area of eligibility for a VFW-qualifying award has been widened to include Azerbaijan
and five countries in Africa.
The Pentagon in January added six countries to its list of qualifying area for the Global
War on Terrorism Expeditionary (GWOT-E) Medal. All but one are in Africa.
U.S. troops serving in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom or Operation Enduring
Freedom in Azerbaijan, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Senegal, Tanzania or Tunisia since Sept.
11, 2001, are now eligible for the GWOT-E.” – VFW Magazine.

The Honor Guard was requested to provide services last year for 68 funerals for
deceased Veterans. According to Jr. Vice Cliff Burkhart, that’s not all that the Honor
Guard does. There are many varied presentations and ceremonies that the Honor Guard
may either present or participate in. The Guard presents colors at flag ceremonies and
participates in school sporting events. They hold pledging allegiance and educational
color guard ceremonies, and promote flag etiquette. There are new flag dedications, and
Veterans Day and Memorial Day ceremonies. Dedication ceremonies are held at various
Veterans Memorials in the region. The Honor Guard may be requested to present arms
in a salute in any event pertaining to Veterans or to schools.
We would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to Brother Jerry Smalley for organizing
and manning the flu shots given at the VA Clinic here where fresh coffee, donuts, and
other treats were made available.
