Senior Vice

                    Gene Bustos

  Comrades and Sisters,

Membership is so important to National, Department, and local Posts too!  By having high membership, it
reflects on up the line.

National would like to count on Congressional and Washington actions on the proper delegate or candidate that
will keep the very important American Veteran in mind when it comes to his behalf, especially on health issues.

The Department acknowledges the strength in large membership.

The Local Post realizes our “own” and community participation for a better adjusted individual.  Be it thru
camaraderie and support with each other, or for service health benefits, or for community service such as
parades, school functions, all Veteran funeral honor guards, color guards, etc.

Annual membership dues are still $31.00 yearly.  They are now due for this next year.

Life Membership is the way to go!  The rates depend upon your age bracket.

You can now pay by credit card!  Just call our Post at (505) 327-2182.

  In comradeship,

                          Sr. Vice Commander
                           Gene Bustos

“Why Join?

We are the veterans' advocate and have helped make today's veterans' benefits a reality. Your support helps us
continue that path.

Historically, our membership roll call has included notable veterans like Alvin York, Audie Murphy, Carl Sandburg
and John Glenn and eight U.S. presidents including Theodore Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower,
John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard M. Nixon, Gerald R. Ford and George Bush.

Truman saw VFW membership as a "source of pride and personal satisfaction because of the high ideals that
have been exemplified throughout the lifetime of the VFW." John F. Kennedy equated VFW with America's freedom
and security. Whether on the battlefield or in the classroom, our members are there, ever-ready to help those in
need.

VFW membership is available to all U.S. service members who have earned an overseas campaign or
expeditionary medal and are currently on active-duty, in the Reserves or who have been honorably discharged
from the U.S. armed forces.

Those deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan are eligible for VFW membership, as well as those who have earned the
Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon with Gold Border (AFESR w/GB), the Combat Action Badge (CAB) and the
SSBN Nuclear Deterrent Patrol Breast Insignia. A 1995 VFW Congressional Charter amendment makes eligible all
those who have served 30 consecutive days or 60 nonconsecutive days on the Korean peninsula or in its
territorial waters from June 30, 1949, until the present.

Besides meeting the above requirement, the service member must be a U.S. citizen.”

Did you know that the VFW provides used medical equipment to needy Veterans?  All equipment comes from
people like you who donate unneeded medical equipment to the VFW for this purpose.  Everything from
wheelchairs, power chairs, walkers, and hospital beds have been donated and provided to those Veterans in need.
Did you know that you can have your service branch’s insignia lighted up at the VFW canteen?  Just make a
dollar or more donation to the flag fund, and the bartender will put the spotlight on your branch’s insignia.
